Additional Off the Wall Information

Given the pace of Michael Jackson's post-Thriller release schedule, it's striking that Off the Wall appeared between two albums with his brothers, Destiny (1978) and Triumph (1980), on which the twentysomething phenomenon was also fully engaged. Aided by richly detailed but not overdone production, Off the Wall redefined how much Michael might do.

Tracks like "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough," "Rock with You," the title cut (all Top 10 singles), and "Burn this Disco Out" not only consolidated his dance-floor power, but showed just how soulful and varied his vocals could get on uptempo material. Artistic role models like James Brown and Jackie Wilson echo through the mixes, but these were Jackson's leaps forward. The addition of pure pop confection--Paul McCartney's "Girlfriend," Stevie Wonder's "I Can't Help It"--further fleshed out the star's young-adult persona and helped make Off the Wall among the most fondly remembered of all his solo work. This special edition features two magic home demos and entertaining, insightful interviews of producer Quincy Jones and "Rock with You" composer Rod Temperton. --Rickey Wright

What Customers Say About Off the Wall:

In short, they changed the game as far as that style of music is concerned. This would later be cemented by the next album. The most notable was on Mary J. I don't know about anyone else but I love listening to it everytime it plays.

I'll keep the personal comments limited as this is a product review.Michael Jackson's "Off The Wall" was his first album as a solo artist for Epic Records under the guidance of the legendary Quincy Jones. Regardless of what I thought of the man later personally, his musical legend can't be questioned. Blige's album "Mary" as she used its sample for one of her songs. While R & B had its share of fans, Michael and Quincy helped make it with some appeal to mainstream audiences.

While not a known song by Michael, it has been sampled many times by hip-hop artists and other singers. Highly recommended CD for fans of Michael or just want some good old school R & B music with a touch of pop in it. With tunes such as the title track, "Don't Stop 'Till Get Enough", "Rock With You","She's Out Of My Life" and "Working Day & Night", this now classic helps establish Michael as a force in R & B with pop influence. I am sure you've heard of it as it goes by the name of "Thriller."My personal favorite tune on here is "I Can't Help It." The original song is just a mellow, almost spiritual song about love and devotion.

I bought this when it came out in 1979 and I was pretty much a hard core rock and roller (and still am).it was great then and is still great today.

I once thought that maybe his next album would be significant, but no. This album is fluff, and although he skirted interesting musical ideas he never followed through. Now he's dead, so how about we let the dead rest in peace and never mention him again. Once upon a time, MJ was on the cusp of creating something musically significant. But he veared back off into the realm of intensely boring.

My favorite songs are Off the Wall, Rock with You and I Can't Help It. It has superb arrangements and great songs and of course great vocals. This is basically a disco album. I would recommend this album to any m.j. fan.

Maybe because it was the first time he was a new artist, no longer the Jackson 5 member (love them too). The real bottom line, if you are limiting which records you will get from his career (particularly solo) this one is in the top 2 no matter what. M.J. was a superstar from the beginning, and from his early days he always was the front man, persona, even when 12 years old. Here is one of the records which showed what was really to come down the line, and it is still probably his best effort (yes, Thriller is amazing and really does deserve the accolades, but this one always was special)Maybe it was because I was young.
